Dear Friends:

We are feeling especially grateful for your support. You – our ivoh community members – inspire us to continue doing important work that carries forth our mission of strengthening the media’s role as an agent of change and world benefit.

We spent a lot of time in 2015 deepening our inquiry into Restorative Narrative – a term that ivoh coined to describe a genre of stories that show how people and communities are making a meaningful progression from a place of despair to a place of resilience.

Over the past year, we have developed a Restorative Narrative Fellowship, held a Restorative Narrative summit, led Restorative Narrative workshops nationwide, developed our Web presence, and expanded our reach and impact among media practitioners.

In early January, we launched the second iteration of our fellowship. We opened up the 2016 fellowship to media practitioners of all kinds in hopes of learning more about how the Restorative Narrative genre plays out in various media sectors.

Our 2016 fellows – Dan Archer, Christa Hillstrom, Heidi Shin, and Moses Shumow — represent gaming, photography, digital journalism, public radio, and documentary film. Their fellowship projects will focus on a variety of topics: the Colombian conflicts; sex abuse among Native American women in the Pacific Northwest; refugees who are working through “double trauma” after finding resilience in Boston; and stories of restoration and renewal in a Miami neighborhood that is often defined by a single narrative about poverty and crime. (Learn more about their work here).

You can support their fellowship projects by making a tax-deductible donation to Images & Voices of Hope. So far this month, ivoh community members have contributed $11,500 toward the fellowship. We encourage you to join them by making a year-end donation via our crowdfunding campaign page. We are offering a variety of “perks” for those who donate, depending on the dollar amount. The perks include an ivoh tote bag, a signed photo print from ivoh community member Mary Beth Meehan, and story coaching from 2015 fellow Ben Montgomery.

You can learn more about the perks and what your money will go toward by visiting our campaign page.

By donating to Images & Voices of Hope, you are joining a community of media practitioners and news consumers who care about Restorative Narrative – and how media can be a positive force for good.

We truly appreciate your support and wish you a happy and peaceful new year!
